Nina Hagen 1979

German punk singer Nina Hagen on a single-page poster in Bravo of 17 May 1979.

Hagen’s music was not great (acquired taste, perhaps), but in East Germany she had a fabulously subversive hit in 1974 with the holiday song “Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen”. The title translates as “You forgot the colour film”. The joke the censors didn’t get, apparently, was that East German citizens didn’t usually have access to colour film.

The other Thing was, the lines are very subversive, because Nina sang also about violence against women, a taboo theme in the GDR.
